We know how important it is to find the best wedding photographer that is right for you.   Having someone you can trust to capture the best day of your life is essential! A good photographer should do more than just take some pretty photos.   We spent weeks looking through wedding photographers, and asking every question that came to mind.   So here are a few of the most important questions to ask your wedding photographer!

Ask to see a full gallery

Scrolling through a wedding photographer's instagram page only shows their best work. Asking for a full gallery will show you all the photos you may receive. Look for how many photos are typically delivered. Does the photographer get enough wedding party photos for your liking? Do they capture the details from the venue? Are there enough family photos? You can learn a lot by seeing a full gallery. This was one of the most important questions when we were searching for a photographer.

What is their turnaround time? Do they provide sneak peeks?

After the wedding you will be dying to see the photos from your special day, but unfortunately editing takes time! While faster is not necessarily better, it can be nice to get the photos sooner. Many wedding photographers will include sneak peeks which are a small group of photos delivered early. That way you can have photos of the key moments early! Having a clear understanding of how and when your photos will be delivered is vital.

How do they make their couples comfortable while posing?

Every photographer will pose couples differently.   Knowing what makes you and your future spouse comfortable is very important! Do you want to be directed and posed by your photographer throughout the day, or would you rather the photographer capture moments as they happen?   There is always flexibility for both types of posing throughout the day, but having these types of conversations with your photographer beforehand will help the day go more smoothly!

Are they local to you?

An important thing to know is if your photographer lives close to your venue! Many people work as destination photographers, traveling all around the world to capture weddings. Which means they might have to travel for yours. If they are from outside your area, there might be a travel cost. Also ask if they have captured any weddings near you before. Having someone who is familiar with the locations near you can be really helpful for finding unique photography locations!

Is there a videographer that they prefer to work with?

If you are looking for someone to also capture your wedding day through video, having a photo/video duo that work well together can save you a lot of hassle! Photographers often know many people they can recommend. Whether they are a photo/video couple or if they just know good people in the area, either can save you time looking for someone!

How do you officially book them?

Lastly, once you have found the photographer that you love, you will need to know how to proceed! Everyone has their own system, but typically your photographer will need a deposit and a contract signed.   The deposit is a partial down payment, and the contract officially hires them! Once these things are done, Voila! You have booked your wedding photographer!
